The Sailendra and Srivijaya

The Sailendra group eventually fell under the domination of Srivijaya. The capital was Palemburg. This location became the center of religious learning for Chinese monks. There was a very strong Indian influence (mostly Hinduism and Buddhism). There was a Buddhist temple at Borobudur, (built in the 800s by Angkor Wat) which also showed a lot of Indian influence. The Srivijaya also used the civil service system. This dynasty grew wealthy from taxing traders who passed through their territory. This dynasty was a very agricultural one. During the peak, the Srivijaya ruled the Strait of Malacca and other bodies of water. That also helped them become wealthy because of the taxing .
